I’m all for a romantic night out, wining and dining your loved one, and feeling special; however, Valentine’s Day, like many things has gotten out of control. For most, it’s just another excuse to over indulge on unhealthy foods, candy, chocolate and spending money. So, let’s raise our glasses (of water, duh) to a different approach… This year I challenge you to embrace your heart and give yourself the gift of health. Whether you’re with friends, a date, or enjoying some quality “me time” I want your blood pumping and fat burning. So, let’s have a healthy and appropriately sweet V-Day!
If you’re single, please don’t get hung up on the fact that you are… it’s just another day and it most definitely doesn’t define you or your character. Being single doesn’t mean that no one loves you… seriously, get your head out of the tub of ice cream! Stop feeling sorry for yourself and turning to the brownies for love… They won’t make you feel any better, trust me! Instead… LOVE YOURSELF!
Treat yourself to some serious heart beating exercise or maybe indulge in a fresh manicure. Gather a group of your girlfriends and plan a night together. There are tons of organizations that host events; search for 5k cupid races or yoga workshops. There are entire meet up organizations that host V-Day special events for singles! Who knows, you may end up getting struck by cupids arrow and meeting someone :0) If an event like that isn’t what you’re looking for maybe you can use this time to pamper yourself in the kitchen… the healthy way of course! Take a cooking class and spice up your heart healthy recipes.
For those of you who are in a relationship, please don’t get caught up on the fancy overpriced and over portioned dinners out. You don’t need to eat a pound of pasta swimming in a thick creamy butter sauce or eat two-dozen chocolates because you feel like that’s what you’re supposed to do. I’m not against treats or the occasional not so healthy meal, but just slow down and think about it. Do you really need ALL of those treats? How are they going to make you feel after? Here’s the thing, if you’re going to indulge in chocolate lava cake for dessert (yummy) then maybe consider ordering fish and steamed veggies for dinner instead of the fettuccini alfredo with extra cheese sprinkled on top! Moderation is key… yes, this includes your alcohol too. Enjoy yourself, but don’t have three glasses of wine, the fettuccini, AND the lava cake… your body will hate you later, it will have to work over time to undo the mess you made earlier. Sounds like another night fighting being lethargic, bloated, and cranky…. all while your partner is patiently waiting for some V-Day loving!
I want you to take time on V-day to reconnect with one another instead of spending your time being rushed in and out of a jam-packed restaurant over indulging on excessive sweets and treats. Instead, get your hearts pumping with a killer partner workout! Not only will you be spending time together, but you can help motivate and push each other! Plus, think about all the endorphins that will be flying around the room! It’ll be near impossible to dodge an endorphin arrow. After your workout maybe you can take a nice bath or go for massages together and then finish your night by cooking a healthy meal together in the kitchen with some of your favorite music.
If you won’t be eating dinner for a while after your workout, then you will need to refuel. Check out this link for an amazing, delicious, and super healthy Pink V-Day Chocolate Strawberry Cream Post-workout shake recipe!!! http://isafyi.com/valentines-day-shake-contest/
